Certified organic Kalamata P.D.O. (Protected Designation of Origin) extra virgin olive oil and winner of international quality awards. Its rich peppery taste is reflective of high presence of oleocanthal, a phenolic compound that acts as a natural antioxidant and has anti-inflammatory properties. Carries an official EU health claim because of its high phenolic content.*
The farm is located on high altitude, which allows the olives to rip slower allowing this organic extra virgin olive oil, to be considered an early harvest. Pressed same day of harvest. P.D.O. seal indicates a practice described as "first cold press", which preserve the oil's freshness, flavor and health benefits.
Olive variety & origin: Koroneiki, from Kyparissia, Western Greek Peloponnese.
Olive oil category: Certified organic P.D.O. extra virgin, acidity level 0.5% or below, high polyphenol content: total polyphenols 588mg/kg (over 2.4x higher than average organic extra virgin olive oil).
Organoleptic profile: Balanced, medium fruity and aromatic, medium pungency, subtle bitterness and pleasantly peppery aftertaste.
Uses & food pairing: For subtle flavour enhancement on fresh and cooked salads, finishing soups and stews, drizzling over steamed vegetables. In egg and fish dishes, also cake baking.
*Health benefits can be obtained with a daily intake of 20g of extra virgin olive oil, equivalent to approximately two tablespoons.
